SMUGGLING OF BOG LONDON, A us. 18. .When the French actress, Albortina lo Marchand, landed at Southampton from tho Normnndic a preventive oiliecr became suspicious on seeing a bundle under her arm move. He asked her what was in the bundle, and had some difficulty in making her understand as she did not speak English very well. She then explained tho bundle by saying "My baby." A statement to'this effect was-made by Mr. E. W. Oocher, prosecuting, at Southampton Police Court yesterday, when Mile, lo Marchand was fined £"> for landing or carrying a dog into the United Kingdom without permission from the Ministry of Agriculture. Mr. C. A. Mamucl, for Mile. lc Marchand, .said she would not have brought tho dog had she known it was illegal to do so.
