CLOSE OF SEASON TOKOMARU BAY CLUB TROPHIES PRESENTED (Jlurftld Correspondent.) The Tokomaru Ray Badminton Club concluded a very successful season ut blip Gaiety Theatre, Tokomaru Bay., on Friday.evening. About 50 members and friend's attended, and llic evening was spent with friendly badminton games. in which the friends of the members participated,, followed by dancing and community singing. Supper was provided by the members, and dining tho evening speeches, toasts and the presentation of the trophies were delivered. The presentations were made by the chairman of the club, Mr. V. Cnllinane. assisted by the secretary, Mr. 11. .1). Gardner, and were received as follows: Champion doubles miniature cups donated/by the club went to .Mrs. .M. Alexander ' and Miss M. Walker for the ladies, while Mr. M. Alexander and Mr. P.. Nathan received the ' men's. The East Coast Press cups for the combined handicap doubles went to Mr. and .Mrs. M. Alexander, while the runners-up cups donated by the club were won by Miss D. Pepper and Mr. G. Wheeler. Mr. W. L. Wheeler's cup for the most improved male player for the season was won by Mr. T. Godber, and Mrs. Wheeler's rosebowl for the most -im proved lady player was received by Mrs. A. I']. NorKvell. Mrs. Nodwell won the ladies' champion singles, and .Mr. M. Alexander the men's, with Miss M. Walker and Mr. T. Godber mnners-up respectively. No trophies were donated for this event. HELPERS TIIAXKEI). .Mr. H. Wheeler, for llieir donations ,oJ the trophies. Mr. Gardner further expressed gratiiication to the chairman, and the club captain. Mr. Alexander, for the work ihey had done for the club. Mr. M. Alexander spoke in appreciative terms of the untiring efforts df Mi-, and Mrs. Gardner to malfo li Inb a success, fie thanked the committee for its co-operation, and congratulated the winners of the trophies. The speaker mentioned that most of the players had improved wonderfully well and next year should sec good badminton. The toast lisl was as follows: —-Mr. A'. Cnllinane proposed 'a toast to Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler. .Mr. Gardner toasted the winners, while Mr. Alexander proposed a toast for a successful season next year.
