JUVENILE CRIME
INCREASE IN ENGLAND
GANG LEADER AGED 12
SYDNEY, Sept. 25,
Mr. R. H. Swainson, general secretary of the Y.M.C.A., speaking at the Millions Club luncheon, yesterday, declared that juvenile crime had shown an increase in England. “Sir Philip Game told me,” ho said, ‘ ‘ that the police had just broken up a gang of juveniles, who had committed many crimes. The ringleader was aged 12, and tho person who hatched the plots was only 7.’’ Crime in England tended to increase, Mr. Swainson .said, and during hiss recent visit- to England Sir Philip Game, the Commissioner of Police, had sliown liim figures showing that 40 per cent'of the crime in England was committed by people under 21 years of age, and in most cases by boys. Crime among juveniles tended to increase up to the age of 12, slacken between 13 and 16, and increase between that age and 20 years.
