JAPANESE ALARMED
AUSTRALIAN FLOUR IMPORTS BY MANCHUKIjO TOKIO, Sept. 20. The Domei Press Agency reports that Japanese millers are alarmed and are considering measures to checkmate the inroads of Australian flour into Manehukuo, which is flourishing despite the embargo under the Trade Control Law of September 15. The paper says that the method adopted is for Australian flour to be repacked in Shanghai, or Australian wheat to be milled in Shanghai, whence it is re-exported to Manchukuo. Manehukuo imported 220,000 sacks of Shanghai flour in 1935, but only 43,000 in the first half of 1936. Nevertheless, it has imported or contracted for 500,000 sacks since September 15.
Japanese flour .interests want drastic action, but are doubtful if Manehukuo will agree to anything further.
