MOTORISTS’ FATE
LOSES RACE WITH TIDE OVERTAKEN & DROWNED PARIS, Aug. 18. Two persons were drowned off Froincntines, in the Bay of Biscay, after a terrible race between a car and the incoming tide. M. Charbonnier, a notary, decided to cross over the sands at low tide from the island 'of Noirmoutier to Fromentines. The tide 1 had already started coming in, but he counted on the high speed of his car to arrive in time. He had almost crossed when the sea overtook him. He and his maid, who was with him, had to abandon the car, the wheels of which started sticking in the wet sand. Fishermen on the shore at Fi'omentincs could see: the two figures wading desperately to reach the shore, with the sea overtaking . them. M. Charbonnier was seen struggling to. hold the woman above water. !,i
Suddenly . both disappeared. Their bodies, have ndt yet been recovered.
