For Occasions When An Afternoon Frock Is Needed

Will EX choosing- a frock for betweenseason wear, it is best to choose something of the simple, afternoonfrock variety, since its suitability for almost every occasion ensures 'its popularity. And then, ,of course, there is the economic aspect. A woman of limited means who can afford but a single between-season outfit would not be wise to select a formal gown unless she expected a very late spring. Her warm, serviceable, simple, afternoon frock will stand her in much belter stead. The average woman likes to be well ; dressed during her afterno.ons at home, even if she is not actually expecting visitors. It is one of the old customs which have survived in the world of fashion, and, after luncheon, most women change into something a little smarter than their morning frock, j Unless they belong to the type which “dresses for dinner,” they will still bo wearing it when their husbands' e.ome home to dinner. | Besides, it is as well to be prepared for chance visitors. Trimmings should be kept strictly ini the background for this type of wear, | however, allowing little more than j the adornment of unusual sleeves, a pretty neckline, or a smart belt. Plain fabrics can lie brightened with a touch of some other colour, a contrasting belt, or perhaps a set of tailored collar and cuffs in soft white pique or muslin. Choice of Accessories. For the afternoon house-frock, acces-1 sorics are not needed beyond the' usual light shoes, but if the frock is to do duty for street wear also, it ( should be chosen with an eye to existing hats, shoes, gloves, and handbags.
