LORD ELIBANK’S VIEW IMPORTANCE TO BRITAIN N.Z. NEEDS MIGRANTS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. A State luncheon was to-dav tendered 10 the delegates to the Chamber of Commerce Congress, at which the Prime Minister, the lit. TTon. Al. J. Savage, presided. In welcoming the delegates. Afr. Savage said the lime would come when nations would bury their arms, and when they would realise that the brotherhood of man teas a real thing.
The Leader of the Opposition, the TU. Hon (I. W. Forbes, said that the holding of the congress in the Dominion was a great compliment to New Zealand, and lie was sure the Dominion would receive a great deal of wise guidance from the congress dclibora-
Lord Elibank, replying on behalf of the visitors, said that most oj them who bad not the privilege ol visiting New Zealand previously, were, for perhaps the first time, recognising the importance of the Pacific to the British races. Tn the Hinted Kingdom the importance of this question was but dimly recognised but it was through assemblages of hongresses such as the pre cut that information could lie disseminated through the Empire, and brought before the right quarters. One of the questions which the congress would consider, he said, would be that of migration within the Empire, and he believed that the congress would decide that the* time had arrived when migration could be resumed to those Dominions, which were prepared to accept immigrants. Lord Elibank also referred to the matter of the Empire air mail, and said that the delegates were particularly interested in the negotiations for the establishment of Empire air mails on a. ] Ml- rate. | u conclusion, Lord Elibank said lie was convinced that in the event of a future European war, the Englishspeaking people would-have to link together.
