WAERENGA-A-KIKA CLUB

SUCCESSFUL SEASON

The annual meeting of the Waerenga-a-hika Tennis Club was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, the vice-preSi-dent, Mr. M. Coombe, presiding over n good attendance. The commit tee's report was as follows: "The past season was a good one for plav, though marred by cold and some wet weather. The lack of young and new players was noticeable. Though overy encouragement was offered, the young folk tailed to respond and it is hoped that in the interests of the game and the club that older and better players will try to assist- those learners whom we have hopes of getting this year. "It has been pleasing to see the interest taken ill; the courts by some of the members. The environs have been greatly improved by the voluntary work of two members and the thanks of the club arc due to them. Though extra work was cntiilcd by continuous summer growth, trie courts were splendidly kept and alwiys in fine playing order and reflected credit to the caretaker. "During the season the club was very successful in its matches with other clubs. Makurala was beaten and in the unfinished return match we held a good position. On otr visit to Whatatutu we were down a little, an unfinished match, but won the return match. Against Motuhora we lad two wins. "Extraordinary vacancies on the committee have tt 'bo ably filled by those elected. We rjgret the loss of a keen member, the lite Miss Ethel Grey." The balance sheet, showing a surplus on the year's vorking oi £6 6s Bd, was favourably corimonted on and adopted. The election of officers resulted:—President. Mr M. It was decJied to officially open the courts on Satufclay, October 10, with an all-day tounttmcut. On the steady growth of lh< club ii was decided to apply for afiililion with the East Coast, Lawn Tennis Association.
