A well-known breeder of Clydesdale horses, Mr. Arehbald McNicol, has died at his home at Clevedon, aged 83 years. He was ,a son of tho late Mr. Duncan McNicol, a Scottish immigrant, who with .his wife-came to New Zealand in the early 'fifties of last century, making their home at Clevedon. Mr. Archibald McNicol was' the first white child born in the district. Living at a time when the Maoris were in their savage state, Mr. McNicol saw numerous skirmishes between the natives and tho white settlers.
