POLICE ARREST WOMAN

U.S. MILLIONAIRESS

HUSBAND'S SUDDEN DEATH

NEW YORK, Aug. 5. A millionairess, Mrs. Katrina Bradford, a pretty 27-year-old society woman, who will one day control two American fortunes, was to-day detained pending police investigation into the sudden death of her husband.

Her husband, John .Bradford, 31-ycar-old son of a former president, of the Illinois Bank, was found deail in liis apartment in fashionable Pasadena. Neighbours, hearing hysterical screams, discovered tlio tragedy and told the police, who arrested Mrs, Bradford on technical charges of disturbing the" peace until they have finished their inquiries. Mrs. Bradford is now in the prison ward of the Los Angeles General Hospital. She has two black eyes and a number of bruises.

Mrs. Bradford says she awoke and found her husband lying on the floor. Iho apartment was almost completely wrecked and empty bottles were scattered about.

"He'd been drinking the night lel'ore," said tho blonde heiress. "In act, he'd been drinking for months. heard him come home in iho night nd stumble over the furniture.

"I'd had a few drinks myself (hit night, just a few. 1 was too slfeepy to get up then. When I awoke in the" morning I found him on the floor." Mrs. Bradford declared she had received black eyes and bruises, during a quarrel with her husband a week ago. Sho said that there was no quarrel just before his death. Her husband had worked as an electrical engineer, she said. But lie had been employed only intermittently since their marriage four years ago. Mrs. Bradford is tlio grand-niece of Mr. 13. H, Harriman, dead Americstn railway magnate, and is a member of the wealthy New York family of Va.tirensselaer. She once eloped to Maryland, and was married there to Senor Gustavo De Medina, attache at the Spanish Kmbassy. The romance lasted 13 days. Her stepfather, Lieut.-Colom-l John Dunn, alleged that the young diplomat had two other wives, one in Spain. Mrs. Bradford, applying for an annulment o! marriage, declared she had been coerced into the wedding, that she had taken part in the ceremony while, in a "highly excited and nervous, state."
