TAXI TRADE CONTROL

PLACE ON COMMITTEE ACCOUNTANT APPOINTED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Statistical and financial aspects of the inquiry that is being undertaken by a committee appointed to investigate the taxi and town carrier question have led tho chairman of the committee, Mr. P. M. Butler, to confer with the Minister for Transport. the Hon. R. Scmple, and raise tho question of the desirability of having appointed to the committee a. qualified accountant.

"I quite agree that the importance of financial "and statistical data in connection with the inquiry cannot he stressed too much," said Mr. Scrapie, "and, as these matters are becoming more prominent as the inquiry progresses, I have decided to nialco this .additional appointment." The Minister announced that he had appointed Mr. 11. B. Smith, B Com., A.R.A., N.Z., chief clerk of the Transport Department, as a member of the committee.
