WHATAUPOKO CLUB ANNUAL REPORT RENEWED INTEREST The annual report of the committee of lho Whatuupoko Lawn. Tennis Club, to ho presented this evening to the annual general meeting of the .'tub members, is. as follows : _ . "Last .season was one of renewed interest, ami keenness in play as is evidenced by the increased membership and attendance, of members at the courts. Ladies' Handicap Doubles : Mrs. Boon and Miss O. .Mead. .Men s Championship Singles, .Stoneham Cup: <l. Steeveus. Men’s Handicap Singles: B. Richardson. -Men’s Handicap Doubles I R. Bignell and A. Bvodie. Men s Junior Singles: R. Richardson. Men’s Junior Doubles : TL Richardson and E. Evans. IXTER-CLUB MATURES

"During Iho Christmas holidays the Poverty Bay and East Coast Lawn Tennis Association had the use of the Hub's grounds for two days of its annual tournament, and as a result the Hub received a. share of the profits. The Hub last season was fortunate in enrolling several players whose tennis was of a particularly high standard, with the result that in the inter-club matches we were more than able to hold our own. Our representative team was successful in the first round of the 11. B. Williams Shield, winning every match of the series with a handicap of eight games against the. Mangnpapa dub. We were defeated, however, ill the second round bv Tolaga Bay by 14 matches to 10. .Actually our team won 18 games to the ( 'oast team’s six', but with _ the handicaps of Tolaga Bay, receive eight, and Whalaiipoko, owe eight, the Tolaga Bay players ran out the winners. "The results of the other inter-dub matches are as follow: AYhatanpoko v. Tolaga. Bay at Tolaga resulted in a win for our dull, 2>l-5. Whalnupoko v. Painlalii at Patutnhi. our dub was again successful in winning 16 out of the 22 sets completed. AYhatanpoko v. Gisborne, resulted in a will for the Gisborne, dull, 24-13; in this match one of our players, J. ,Steeveus, showed tine, form and defeated A. Shorland, the Poverty Bay and East, Coast lawn tennis champion for the previous season, by nine games to five. Whalnupoko v. Tolaga at Gisborne resulted in a win for our dub, 21 games to five. Whatanpoko v. Titirangi A at Whalaiipoko resulted in a win for AYhatanpoko, 15-9, and in the l! grade match played at Titirangi courts our club won 17 out of the 24 games, played. MEMBERS’ SUCCESSES ‘‘ln the Poverty Bay and East Const Lawn Tennis Club’s Christmas tournament ono of our players, J. Steevens, was successful in annexing the Men’s Singles Championship, and R-. Richardson, another of our prominent players, was successful in annexing the junior championship. J, Steevens and D. K. MeLaudilan were runners-up in the Men’s Doubles Championship, handicap o. 30.4. and Mrs. G. Brown and J. Steevens were runners-up in the Combined Doubles Championship. “At the Tolaga Bay Lawn Tennis Club’s annual tournament, J. Steevens and D. K. MeLaudilan won the men’s doubles and J. Steevens and Miss C. 'Mend were, successful in winning the combined doubles. To all of these, players the club extends its congratulations. From the foregoing results it will bo seen that (he standard of play in the dull has been considerably improved, and the committee hopes that those members who have been mainly responsible, in making the dub '(lie second best in the district will continue to play with us and 11ms ensure the continuation of a high standard of play.

"During the autumn and winter months the courts have been thoroughly renovated hv top-dressing, levelling and sowing, and as a result of the tine spring it. is confidently expected that the club will have, its. courts in excellent condition two weeks earlier than usual for the coming season, and, in this respect records the, capable work of Mr. E. Calcott, our greenkeeper, and his interest in striving to have the courts at all times in a perfect condition. Thanks are extended to Mr. F. 'LL Robinson for Itis services as lion, auditor.”
