Til recognition of Mr. Walter Reid’s services for 215 years as chairman of the Whakatane County Council, the members of tho council and the administrative staff tendered him a complimentary dinner on Thursday. Mr. A. E. Galbraith, .city engineer of Christchurch, has been appointed chairman of the New Zealand Standards Institute, which is now associated with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
