CANTERBURY PRODUCE Potatoes have come back about 10s a ton since the high levels reached in the middle of the week, states a Christchurch message of Friday. A further shipment to South America has been the main support of the market, but there has also been a healthy demand from Auckland, where stocks appear to be short, and where there is some desire to cover requirements till the Pukekohe crop comes in about the end of next month. Quotations were wide on Friday, but nominally whites were worth £5 15s per ton on trucks, and Dakotas £6 ss. The drop of 10s per ton in the wholesale price of sugar, announced by tne Sugar Refining Company, Limited, as from yesterday, is not likely to affect the retail* cost of sugar t.o Gisborne householders. a reporter learned on inquiry in the trade to-day. The reduction represents approximately 4d per hag of sugar, an amount which cannot he passed on to (lie public in the sale of broken quantities. THE SHAREMARKET (Ter Press Association.)
