INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
GISBORNE PROPOSAL BOARD’S ENDORSEMENT ARCHITECT INSTRUCTED Endorsing the resolutions recorded at last week’s meeting of the school committee members with the Director of Education and members ot the board, the Hawke's Bay Education Board, at its monthly meeting in Napier on Friday, decided to place the resolutions before the Minister ot Education, the lion. Peter Fraser, with a strong recommendation. The board also decided to instruct its architect to prepare sketch plans of the projected intermediate school for Gisborne, and to submit estimates of the cost of putting the proposed site in order.
The board received a full report, of the meeting in Gisborne from its chairman, Mr. G. A. Aladdison, who incidentally thanked Messrs. T. A. Coleman aiul J. S. Wnuehop, members of tlie board, for their assistance in preparing for the meeting with Ihe Director of Education, Mr. X. T. Lambourne, and school authorities in Gisborne. Be expressed satisfaction concerning the unanimity shown at the meeting, and stated that in his opinion it was desirable that a definite application containing the whole of the board’s proposals for Gisborne should bo placed before the Education Department at the earliest possible date.
This application, Aft. Maddison suggested, also should include the provision of a new infant school on the special site acquired for the purpose some years ago, the cost of removing the old wooden buildings not. required at Gisborne Central, and also the cost of removing tlie shelter sheds, cycle sheds, and other accommodation to more suitable positions. In reference to the preliminary work done bv Messrs. Waucliop and Coleman in connection with the conference, tlie chairman commented that it was no doubt largely responsible for the degree of unanimity shown at the conference itself.
The board adopted the report unani mouslv. and gave effect to the chair man’s recommendations.
