OVERHAUL OF DREDGE
ESTIMATED ('OST CIO,OOO Ten thousand pounds is the estimated cost of overhauling the New Plymouth Harbour Board’s dredge' l’ari tutu at Wellington. The vessel is expected to lie in dock for three mentis. Every four years tie dredge undergoes an extensive reft- with overhaul less frequently the cost, usually being about .LEGCO. The cxtmsive nature of l lie work, ami labour eisls —an increase estimated at 30 per ecu!—has made this year’s refit .more cost!,- than was expected. The work impos'd on the dredge in the deepening and widening ql the harbour lairwav and 'lie pumping ol drilling sand imposes a heavy strain on the vessel. Each yoaj the Paritntu pumps and. carries out U sea over 200,000 tons of sand and boulders.
