POET GOES TO GAOL
LONDON, Aug. S. Michael Bovaney, 74, who oa July 31 was remanded for a week by the Reading magistrates on a charge of Stealing a bicycle, composed verses in the interval. Yesterday lie read the following to the Bench: I am p.oor Michael Devaney, of no fixed abode, Either in prison or else on the road. I walk round the country and steal what I can; Own up to my faults like a true Irishman. Here in the court at Reading to-day; Where, in a short time, I cannot say; Perhaps in Oxford Gaol, for all 1 know. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow. The poet wfts sentenced to three months’ hard labour.
