REARMING IN BRITAIN
SUPPORT BY LABOUR DEFENCE OF DEMOCRACY EXECUTIVE O P I NTONS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Sept. 19. The Daily Telegraph's political correspondent says that a !i\ e-hoiu meeting of the national executive of the Labour Party revealed that a substantial majority supported the Government’s rearmament programme. A sub-committee was appointed to draft a resolution to that effect for submission to the executive for endoisement at the annual conference of the Socialist Party at Edinburgh on October 5. A member of the House of Commons, Dr. ltugli Dalton, said that the British Labour Party should show a united front on the issue of preparation towards arming to defend democratic institutions. Mr. J. R. Clynes and other influential members supported this view, but Mr. Herbert Morrison was critical and Major C. Ik Attlee was non-committal.
