SHORTAGE DENIED
N.Z. NAVAL RECRUITS
500 FOR 46 VACANCIES
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINCTON, this day
A denial of statements that there had been a shortage of recruits for the navy was given by PaymasterCommander E. R. Tottenham, K.N., who said that 500 applications had been received for 46 vacancies, which proved that New Zealand was not behind in a sea sense.
He also refuted statements that British people were losing that sea sense for which they were famed. Any decrease in recruits was the result of a period of rapid expansion before the -war followed by a period of contraction.
