POVERTY BAY CLUB 03RD ANNUAL REPORT SATIS V ACTOR V SEAS( DN The- report of the Poverty Bay Lowing Club, to be presented by ihe committee to the annual general meeting ol the club 10-moi row evening, is as loi lows : "It is with regret that we record the passing of one of the club’s prominent old members in Mr. \Y. More crockery was purchased, and a series of dances is being held in an etlort to augment the finances. The hall also brings m a ,small revenue, being lot to Miss Keany. “Your club's representatives we.ro .successful in winning the Colley and Kirk double sculling shield, and the Neill single sculling shield at. the respective regattas during the season and a strong tail unsuccessful hid was made tor the 1.-.V.A. and Harris and Hill Shields. '1 he club’s congratulations were extended to the Napier club on retaining both tinL.V.A. and Harris and Hill Shields. CLUB ROWING “The club was unsuccessful in retaining the Miller luter-cluh Cup in the annual contest against, the Gisborne club, winning two out of the lour races in the series. The points were Gisborne five, Poverty Bay four. We congratulate the Gisborne club on their success. “Vow keen competition was shown in the various club events conducted during the year. An average of 11 crews competed in the four-oar competitions, while .satisfactory entries were received for the pair oar and double sculling events. A competition for novice scullers was held md proved to he very popular among the new rowers. “During the year the committee elected a social commitee with the object ot raising funds. Some idea of its activities may be gained from the fact that £7O 9s 6d was raised through a series of dances, the hall, and the flag five-lumdred evenings. Undoubtedly the success of these functions lay in the hands of the ladies eommiltee. to whom ihe club feels very

grateful, and which comprised Mesdames Warren, Thompson, Webb, Dennis, McLeod, Brown, Xeilson. Gardner, Hammond, O’Connell, Kennedy, Weston, Brodio. Ansell, Foster, and Misses M. Webb, M. Tonic, and J. Warren.” Thanks were expressed to all who had helped the club.
