GOLDEN PROMISE’S CUP WIN FOR PALATINATE MELBOURNE, Sept, 19. At the Mentone races the New Zealandbred Golden Promise brilliantly won the Cup, while Palatinate, a former New Zealander, finished strongly to win the first division of the Dandenong Welter. Regular Bachelor displayed fine form in winning the Newry Plate. Results were : Banyan Hurdles.—Rarnum, 10.7 (Jennings), 1; Eastern Chief, 10.10 (Fullarton), 2; Pride of the Plain, 10.7 (Douglas), 3. Nine started. Won by a length and three-quarters of a length. Time, 3-47. Dandenong Welter (first division). — Palatinate, 9,2 (Skidmore), 1; Counter Patrol, 8.9 (Patching), 2; Balkan Prince, 9.8 (Dox), 3. Twelve started, including Radiant Star. Won by a neck and threequarters of a length. Time, 3.4. Mentone Cup.—Golden Promise, 8.7 (Skidmore), 1; Frill Prince, 7.3 (Elliot), 2; Valiant Chief, 9.6 (Voitre), 3. Sixteen started, including Desert Chief. Won by half a length and If, lengths. Time, 2.5. L Newry Plate.—Regular Bachelor, 10.5 (Voitre), 1; Gay Pop, 8.5 (Elliot), 2; Young Idea, 9.9 (Skidmore), 3. Ten started. Won by a head and a length. Time, 1.12.
Mr. Murphy’s colt Omarere was shipped back to New Zealand by the Wanganella. on Saturday. His form as a three-year-old lias been disappointing, •ut it is stated that Mr. Murphy thinks Amarere may do better under New Zealand conditions
