GOOD PROGRESS MADE
MORTGAGE MEASURE COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION" (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Good progress was made in the committee stage by the House of Representatives on the'most complicated bill of the session, the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Bill, and 46 clauses had been adopted when work was completed for the day. However, as the bill contains 8-1 clauses, and the Minister introduced eight large pages of amendments, many of a machinery or technical nature, there is a good deal to be done before the mortgage adjustment legislation is completed. The Government intends proceeding with the public works statement and estimates on Tuesday in order to give further time for consideration of the mortgage position. No amendments by Oppositionists were adopted during yesterday's consideration of the Mortgage* Bill, the clauses passed covering all definitions, the constitution of the Court of Review and adjustment commissions, and also the terms of rehabilitation. Several clauses in the section relating to the adjustment of liabilities remain to be considered, and nlso 30 clauses of miscellaneous character.
