GOLF BALL : UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS > - (HeraM Correspondent.) :6h Wednesday evening the Patutahi Golf Club held its annual ball in the Patutahi Hall, and those who worked so hard are to be congratulated on the unqualified success of the evening. A. merry crowd of dancers attended and everytliing went with a swing. -Mrs. Alenzies" orchestra provided the music. Tree i ferns and greenery intermingled with heather were used to veiy enectively 'decorate the wails of the hall, and on brackets round the hall were beautiful bowls of Iceland poppies. Crossed goil clubs and other symbols of the game, as well as a most original programme ot dances, created a sporting atmosphere, while the stage had been arranged as a lounge with easy chairs ana small tables and was decorated with flowering shrubs and greenery. The tables in the supper-room were decorated with tall vases of narcissi and bowls of cream and golden polyanthus. The supper was under the supervision oi Mrs. C. Buriaud, helped by a large banu of willing helpers. The ladies had provided a most sumptuous supper, which waa much appreciated by the many dancers.

During an interval before suppei Mri W.,Jackson, president of the l/atutahi Golf Club, outlined the past year's work'in the club, which had been most successful, lie referred to the good work done'by the committee, and also tiie secretary, Mr. t'usacK. who had been a tower of strength, and he felt that it was greatly due to ins, efforts that,the club was now in sucii a gool position. Mr. Jackson thanked the ladies' committee for their woriv, especially their help in getting up tue ball, anl said that the great success of the evening was due to their assistance.

Mr. Jackson then announced the prize-winners as follows:—First medal round over 36 holes, trophy presenteu by Mr. H. Harper: Mr. F. Wickens. Ladies' medal round, of 27 holes, trophy presented by Mr. G. W. Armstrongt Mrs. T. Fere. Second medui round for ladies, over 18 holes, cup presented by Mr. A. Wilson: Mrs. J. Jobsoh. Men's second medal round, o. 27 holes, trophy presented by Mr. L. Konncr: Mr. K. Parsons. Mixed four somes, for the President's Cup: Mis. J. Crawford and Mr. T. Fere. Mr. Jackson also announced the win ner of trophies won during the year. Mr. James Atkins' trophies: Mrs. .'■ Hogan, ladies; Mr. J. Hogan, mens. Mrs. Atchinson's trophies: Mrs. McNaughton, ladies; Mr. J. Mackie. men. Eighteen-hole medal round: Miss N.. McLoughlin, ladies; Mr. F. Wickens, men. Stableford bogey match: Mrs. Atchinson and Wr. W. Jackson.

Before dancing was resumed the president called upon Mrs. Jackson to present the trophies. Mr. Jackson als,c asked Mr. Cusack to accept a small gift as a mark of appreciation for his work as secretary.
