SYDNEY SCRATCHING^ EPSOM AND METROPOLITAN (Eluc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) SYDNEY, Sept. 17. Pamelus was scratched to-day for .the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps. Contact and Kinnoull also have been scratched for the Metropolitan Handicap. Egmont, whose preparation has been seriously interrupted, has also been scratched for the Metropolitan. Blackfriar has almost recovered from injuries received on the trip from New Zealand, but is not starting in the Derby. Its trainer, J. Fryer, says it may start in some minor Randwick event, after which Blackfriar is going to Melbourne. Training at Randwick this morning was on the outside of the course proper, which was a little dead after rain.
Loud Applause started with Ilium at the mile post, and Cerne Abbas joined in at tho five furlongs. Loud Applause went well and finished in front, taking 1.48 for tho mile.
Custos and Grand Boy completed six furlongs in 1.22, the latter going tho better of the pair. Pladie and Happy Landing ran a mile in 1.51. On the middle grass at Rosebery with the poles 25ft. out, where the going was good. Silver Ring, carrying a very light weight, sprinted six furlongs in 1.15*!, the first two taking 25£sec. • He is showing that he is back to his best form. Sporting Blood led Satmoth over seven furlongs in 1.32, both working satisfactorily.
