MAORI MONUMENT
ONE TREE HILL SUMMIT HUG E GATHERING EXPECTED The largest gathering of members of the Maori race ever held may take place at the top of One Tree llill in 1930, when a • monument in honour of the Maoris will ho unveiled during the centennial celebrations, according to a statement made by the Mayor, Mr. L. J. Goklstine, at. a, meeting of the One Tree Hill Borough Council. The matter arose when the council received from Mr. W. P. Endean, M.P. for Parnell, a, copy of legislation which proposed to set- aside a portion of ground on the top of One Tree Hill for the monument. Mr. Endean asked for the council’s comments. Mr. Goklstine, said there was no reason why the council should object to the erection of the monument. Mr. ■ Endean’s communication was received, and it was decided to reply to this effect.
