The cruiser Raleigh, of 7500 tons, will be Rear-Admiral Fairfield’s flagship, replacing the Quincy. Other units will be the destroyers Kamo and Hatfield, and the coastguard cutter Cayuga. All are now operating near Spain. The fleet’s mission will be to protect Americans in emergencies and display the American flag in European ports.
