ARBITRATION COURT

GISBORNE MISSED ONLY ONE DISPUTE COUNTY LA BOURERS Gisborne seems to have been missed from the sittings of the Arbitration Court this month, but no definite information can be secured on this point locally. Early in the month it was stated that the court would proceed to Rotorua and Gisborne after finishing in Auckland, but according to an overnight message from Auckland, published on page 10, the court will sit in Wellington the day following the Rotorua hearing on September 28, and will go on to the South Island for the early part of October before returning to Wellington. No mention is made of Gisborne, and there seems no possibility of a sitting being sandwiched in here this month, although one was promised during September.

Only one dispute is known to be waiting for hearing in Gisborne at present, that between labourers employed by county councils and town boards against the local bodies eoncorned. The employees wish to come under a Dominion award.

The secretary of the union, Mr. C. E. Bickford, stated to-day that his union had been led to believe that the dispute would be heard here this month, but he had been advised of no definite date.
