Thirty-five years ago Mrs. (!. Soper, of Athol. Southland, lost her engagement ring and. after searching assiduously without result, she offered a reward to anyone who found it. The other day Miss Alice Soper, a niece of .Mrs. Super, was helping her brother while he was repairing a fence, and the ring was unearthed when a post hole was I eing dug. It was ill as good condition as the (lav it was lost, anil the reward, which still held guod, was paid over. While attempting to alight on the lop of the mas* of the AiM'kh'ml trawler Humphrey in the Iluuraki Gulf, a largo mollymavk became impaled on the sharp rod supporting the wimlvane and died. The sea was rough at. the lime and flu* vessel was pitching heavily. Fishermen say that when these birds have eaten n large quantity of fish they become heavy and flounder about when flying.
