BARTLETT’S NEWS
R.S.A. BRANCH FORMED (Herald Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening a meeting was convened by Mr. J. H. Greenwood to form a sub-association of the Gisborne branch of the R.S.A. at Bartlett’s. There were present 23 returned soldiers, and all were unanimous in voting for the formation of a sub-association.
A committee was set up and the following “Diggers” were elected: — Messrs. F. Milroy, W. Garbctt J. H. Greenwood, Garment, and C. W. Tomlinson. Mr. C. W. Tomlinson wass elected chairman, and 'Mr. W. Garbctt secretary.
The meeting instructed the secretary to inform the secretary of Ihe Gisborne K.S.A. of its decisions and to make the necessary arrangements tor affiliation to the Gisborne K.S.A. The meeting closed with a. hearty vote o( thanks to Mr. J. H. Greenwood for the trouble lie had taken in arranging the meeting.
At the end of the meeting Mr. D. A. Morton screened some war pictures, which were much appreciated by those present.
On Saturday evening Mr. D. A. Morton put cm the screen at the Y.M.C.A. a number of lantern slides, giving a description of each to those present, who numbered about 70. This being the first evening on which lie had tried out his lantern, everything worked very well, although the light obtainable was not of the best. The ltev. Mr. lludfleld. Manutuke, conducted the service on Sunday evening, and a quartette who came with him sang very well. Mrs. F. Mulligan played for the. service. The Boys’ Club held their weekly social on Monday, 25 members being present, and another pleasant evening being spent. Mr. E. A. ,Smith assisted Mr. D. A. Morton with the organised games. After the. games Mr. D. A. Morton gave a short lecture to the lads on the mysteries of the cinematograph and magic lantern.
