TO ABSORB £124,000 LARGE CREDITS AT HAND £40,000 FOR TAIRA WHIT I (Parliamentary Report or.) WELLINGTON, this day. Though the total amount to bo oxponded on native land development and the various settlements promoted under the “Ngata scheme’’ will bo £454,000 for the current, year, the net cost to the country will be only £124,000, owing to the existence of substantia i credits under various headings which will offset the votes provided in the public works estimates. The native land development schemes will absorb £383,500, the survey of native land £SOO, and tlio development of individual holdings with a view to their incorporation in development blocks, £70,000. Against these amounts are sot £330,000 in credits, leaving a balance of £124,000 to be found from the consolidated fund.

By far the largest amount to be spent in the development schemes will go to the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua area, known its Waiariki, £113,400 having been set aside for this combined district. In all, £40,000 is to he spent in Tairawliit.i, as against £49,000 last year. The employment fund will find £130,000 f,or work on the settlement schemes during the year, as against £77,000 last year.
