CUSTODY OF BOY PRINCE

MONACO RULER AT LAW HEARING IN CAMERA LONDON, Aug. 5. prince Pierre of s«it* in o. cleared court at the Law Courts yesterday, listening to the argument ol counsel on*an application concerning the custody of his 12-year-ol(l son, Prince Rainier. The application, which was tor an injunction, came before Mr. Justice Lucknil), sitting as a vacation judge. At the request of both parties, under usual Chancery Division practice in such cases, the case was heard in camera. As soon as the case “Monaco v. Monaco” was called Mr. R. Vaughan Williams, K.C., for Prince Louis, the plaintiff/applied for the case to be heard in camera. Prince Louis, who is ruler of the Principality of Monaco, is the grandfathei of Prince Rainier. His daughter, Princess Charlotte, married Prince Pierre, but their marriage was dissolved in 1933. “This case has already created some publicity,” said Mr. Vaughan Williams. “An infant is concerned in it, and ii the custody of the child is to he discussed it is much better both for the boy and his sister that it should be done in camera.” Mr. Wynn Parry, K.C.. who appeared I for Prince Pierre, the defendant, supported the application for a hearing in camera.

Before the court was cleared Air. Vaughan Williams asked for an adjournment. He said that, an affidavit had been handed to his client at 10.30 the previous night, and there had been no time to consider it.

Mr. Wynn Parry opposed an adjournment, and asked that bis reasons might be given when the court was in camera. Air. Justice Bucknill then directed that the court, which was crowded, should be cleared. Only the interested parties wore allowed to remain.

Last Friday Prince Rainier and bis father were stopped bv officials at Folkstone as they were about to board a steamer for Boulogne. Tt is understood thev wore prevented from leaving on a High Court order
