Congratulations are being extended to the Wairoa primary schoolboy football team on tour in Hawke’s Bay on their signal victories, resulting in the annexation of the Ross Shield. The teachers also are to be commended for the splendid coaching given to the boys.

For the next band concert in the Gaiety Theatre u good.programme is being prepared.

Mr. V. E. Winter, J.P., the district coroner, conducted an inquest into the circumstances attending the sudden death of Edward Harvey, Black street. Evidence was given by Leslie Vivian Compton that on the day of Harvey’s death lie had been talking to the deceased, who seemed quite normal, and then lie suddenly collapsed in the roadway, and died before medical aid could reach him. Dr. M. L. G. Hallwrigiht gave evidence to the effect that death was due to heart disease, and a verdict to this effect was returned. The funeral took place at the Wairoa cemetery, in the presence of a number of the residents, mostly men. The officiating minister was the Anglican curate.

Mr. J. R. Thomson, Miramar, Wellington, has returned home. Master R. Thomson is spending his term holidays with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Harding, North Clyde.—Miss Valerie Marker, daughter of the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Harker, is spending her holidays in Wairoa.— Mrs. M. Murray, and Messrs. Christie (2), returned heme on Thursday, the former to Wellington, and the latter to Hastings.—Mrs. D. McCorkindale and her daughter, Mrs. S. Welliam, Dunedin, left on Thursday for Gisborne, via Morere, in continuation of their tour of the North Island. —Miss Merle MeCorkindale, bridesmaid at the Haughton-Mur-ray wedding, left to-day on her return to Auckland, via the Waikaremoaua route. —Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Moore, who have been on an extended tour of the East, are to arrive back in Wairoa on Sunday. Mrs. P. Glass and her two young daughters, have left for a holiday in the south. —Mr. L. C. Gunn, Timaru, is visiting Wairoa.—Sister Jessie, who left here some time ago for the Timaru district, is reported to lie busy at work among the Presbyterian Church adherents.—Mrs. T. 11. Hall, Matai, who is still in the Wairoa Hospital, is showing some improvement. —Mr. G. A, Meredith, Ashburton, is visiting Morere —Mr. Bob Stewart, Rose street, is a patient in the Wairoa Hospital.—Messrs. G. and H. A. Wheeler, Otaki, are visiting relations in this district. —Mr. J. L. Southbrook, Lawrence, Otago, is undergoing a course of treatment at the Morere hot springs. There are 33 patients in the Wairoa Hospital at present, but no cases of infectious disease.
