J W.I. HUSBANDS' EVENING (Herald Correspondent.) On Tuesday night the husbands and friends of members of the MakarakaMatuwhero Women's Institute were entertained at a very enjoyaoie social and dance held in the'Makaraka Hall. The Manutuke Women's Institute members and their husuands and friends were also the guests of the evening. The institute song was sung, after which the president, Mrs. Lange, welcomed all the visitors. A varied programme of modern and old-time dancing, and items ami competitions was greatly appreciated by all. The musk was sup- .,,■>! by Mesdames Ashdown am] 11. Hunter and the Harmonica Rand, which also gave a number of popular musical items? A delicious home-made supper was served by an energetic ladies' committee.

An exhibition of tap dancing was given by Miss K. Livingston, who later danced the Irish Jig. Mr. J. Parker rendered several songs, including 'Where the River Shannon Flows," and songis were also sung by Mr. W. Davidson. Both these singers proved very popular. A drama, in one act was. ably acted by members of the Women's Institute dramatic circle. "The Draught" had its setting in a backblocks cabin and was very realistic, the players understanding their parts well. "The Honeymoon," another one-act play, proved very amusing, the part of bridegroom being well acted. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. G. Coleman and partner. A novel competition, the honeymoon race, kept tlie audience amused, the winners being Miss L. Houghton and Mr. R. Russell, with Miss W. Gibson and Mr. Houghton second. Community singing, with such old favourites as "Daisy Bell" and "Two Little Girls in Blue," was led by Mr. W Davidson. Another novelty competition, the match box race, drew several teams. During an interval, Mr. C. Tietjen, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Women's Institute members for their entertainment which had proved a very pleasant evening. Mrs. Lange suitably replied on behalf of the institute and expressed thanks to all who bad given items and helped in any capacity. Among those present were Mesdames Lange, W. Livingstone. (.!.
