MOTORIST KILLED
OAR ELECTRIFIED MELBOURNE, Aug. 5. Charles Owens, 20, of MUeh.im, was fatally injured early this morning when his car struck a standard carrying tramway power lines. Owens was trapped in his ear, across which live wires had fallen. He could not be freed for more than half an hour, because the chassis and body were electrified. Owens was' jammed beneath the dashboard of his ear, which was still in gear. Rescuers suffered severe shocks when they tried to extricate him. They could not put the car out of gear and push it away from the wires, beeau.se the gear lever carried an electric current. Eventually the car was towed away from the standard. The dashboard had to be unscrewed before Owens could be freed. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital and was admitted suffering from severe shock and a fractured skull. He died a few hours later.
