SHIPPING DELAYED

AUCKLAND RAINSTORM FIVE VESSELS AFFECTED (Por Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. Beginning at midday, and increasing in severity as the afternoon advanced, a severe rain storm from the northeast swept Auckland. The overseas ships delayed included the intercolonial steamer Marama, the Federal Line steamer Northumberland and the tramp steamer Dalcross. The Marama was to have sailed for Sydney at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, "but the rain caused her departure to be postponed, first until 5 p.m., and then until 8 p.m. Toward evening, when the rain had set in to a steady downpour, the cargo work was abandoned for the night and the, vessel's departure was again postponed until 1 o'clock to-morrow.

The Northumberland was! ta have sailed for London, but the rain prevented any cargo being loaded after midday and her departure had also to be postponed until to-morrow. The Dalcross was unable to complete unloading raw sugar from Java and her departure for Port Kembla was set back. The Port Waikato was to have sailed for southern ports, but she was unable to complete her loading. The Wingatui was also delayed and will sail on Monday. RAIN IN NELSON 'DROME WATERLOGGED (Per Pross Association.) NELSON, last night. Owing to heavy rain to-day, the landing ground at Nelson was waterlogged, and as a result Cook Strait Airways was unable to maintain its timetable in the afternoon. The machines made the usual trips from Wellington in the morning, but on returning to Nelson had to remain thei'e.
