MAORI HYGIENE
EDUCATION NECESSAKY DISCUSSION PROPOSED A request that, the Government should be asked to set up a special division of the Health Department, with a director under the Director-General of Health to control and supervise Maori hygiene with a view to improving! the conditions of Maoris, especially those in pas, was made in the report submitted to the Ha.wke's Bay Education Board by the school medical officers. The report was tabled at the meeting of the board held on Thursday evening.
"The present position is due to the .Maoris themselves." commented Mr. G. A. Maddison, "and t took the opporlunity while at the Education Hoard conference to discuss the position with the Minister, and 1 have every reason to believe that steps will be taken in the near future to carry out the education of Maoris in hygiene. _ The matter suggested is very much required.''
