FORTY-HOUR WEEK

By judgments to-day, the Arbitration' Court gives a 40-hour week to employees of various departments of tho Wellington City Council, and also the Chnstchurch city abattoirs, the daily hours to be subject to arrangement.
Tho court refused to amend the Canterbury nursery and landscape gardners' 'award on the ground that the industry was much affected by weather conditions.
