OBITUARY

Mr. Herbert Boss Dix, of Blenheim, died this week. He was a prominent motor trader and was first president of the Marlborough Aero Club and a former vice-president of the New Zealand Aero Club. Deceased was president of the New Zealand Boxing Association.

A former postmaster at Rotorua, Mr. William Forrest, who had many years’ service in the Post and Telegraph Department, died in Auckland on Wednesday. He was 71 years of age. Air. Forrest, who was born in Stirling, Scotland, was an outstanding telegraph operator.

Mr. Richard William Arnold, who died in Christchurch recently, was born in Lvttelton in 1863. his parents being early colonists. He joined the staff of Dalgoty and Company in 1883, being for many years in charge of the Lyttelton office. He was afterwards promoted to the control of the shipping department in Christchurch, a position which he held until his retirement in 1930. Some 40 years ago, when the Canterbury Jockey Club began to work the totalisators at Riecarton, Mr. Arnold was appointed accountant, and later manager of the “outside machine.” When the two totalisators were combined he was placed in charge, and remained the senior member of the staff until his death.
