POVERTY BAY’S ENTRY ENOUGH MONEY IN SIGHT TEAM LEAVES ON TUESDAY The Poverty Bay representative hockey team will travel to the New Zealand women’s championship tournament in Blenheim, leaving Gisborne on '1 ucsdny afternoon. This was finally decided at a meeting of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association’s executive and members of the team last night, when it was reported that sufficient money was in hand and ill sight to cover the fares, although there would be little over for other expenses which were inevitable on a trip of this nature.

The chairman. Air. if. Le Bas, said that the trip had been made possible, alter the financial failure of the Fiji visit draining the touring fund, by the efforts of the players themselves and by the splendid response given by the public to the appeals made by the association. He took the opportunity of thanking all who had assisted.

Following the decision to send the team. Mr. G. File was appointed manager, Miss E. Bell captain, and Airs. G. Nic-ol vice-captain. Airs. D. Turbitt had been already elected chaperon. It was decided that the team would leave Gisborne by bus at 4 p.m. oil luesday, and, travelling all night, arrive in Wellington on Wednesday morning, resting before hoarding the Picton boat, which was timed to leave at 2.45 p.m. that day. The tournament will commence on ■Saturday of next week, so that the Poverty Bay team, under the arrangements made, will have two clear days before playing its first and, perhaps hardest, match, which will be against Southland. MEN’S TRIP CANCELLED UNSUITABILITY OF DATE The proposed visit ot the Poverty Bay senior and junior men’s representative .earns to Hawke’s Bay has been cancelled iii view of the unsuitability of the date chosen by Poverty Bay. Tiie trip was to have been made on Saturday, August 29. hut the Hawke’s Bay association was unable to play the matches on that date. The matter was considered by a special meeting of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association last night, when it was decided :o cancel the trip. The. Defence club was granted permission to travel to Hawke’s Bay at the :>m! of next week to play the Scinde team, which had promised to return the visit on September 5, the occasion ot the Taranaki match in Gisborne. TO-MORROW’S GAMES Teams to play in the men’s 11-a-side tournament on the Childers Road Reserve to-morrow will include :
