BID TO REGAIN THRONE

A bid to regain the throne of Abyssinia has been made by Menelik, greatgrandson of the Emperor Menelik, who defeated the Italians at Adowa in 15, 95. His father, Lij Yasu, was Emperor from 1913 to 1917, when he was dethroned, and Haile Selassie, then Has Talari, became Regent. Leaving Tadjourah, French Somaliland, where he had been Hi exile, Menelik made for Abyssinian territory. He arrived at Ambabo, where he was caught by Senegalese troopers and taken back.

Mcnclilc would certainly rally numerous warriors' on the appeal.of his name. An attempt to abduct him was made a few months ago, but tailed.

Lij Yasu was captured in a civil war that followed his dethronement. He died in an Abyssinian mountain prison last November.
