NGATIPOROU BONUS

LAST SEASON’S OUTPUT 2ID PER LB. BUTTERFAT £13,000 IN CHEQUES TO-DAV (Special to the Herald.) RUATORIA, this day. Dairy farmers on the East Coast sup plying butterfat to the Xgatiporou C ooperative Dairy Company, Limited* at Ruatoria, shared to-day in a. substantial pay-out totalling nearly £13,000. The greater part of this total represented bonus money at the rate of 2jd per lb butterfat supplied to the factory last season. July butterfat. advances made by the company, and issued to-day, amounted to £lOl4 2s, while the bonus money comes to £11,937 8s 9d, the total available for distribution being £12,951 10s Sd. Last year’s output-from the factory totalled 69i tons, as against 670 tons for the previous season : during the 1936-37 season it is expected that the factory will easily pass r,he 700-tons mark in output. Conditions for the commencement of the season are most promising, and in a number of instances individual suppliers have increased their herds or effected improvements by the purchase of highproduction stock. A general extension of the industry on the Coast is foreshadowed, and the company has a. considerable area within its recognised sphere of influence which is as yet far from beings fully developed for dairy production.

In announcing the decision to pay the 2|d bonus on last season’s output of butterfat, the directors of the Ngatiporou company extended their hearty congratulations to those staunch suppliers of the factory who had been the mainstay of the industry in the Waiapu Valley and adjoining areas of the Coast since the inception of the company’s activities.

It is pointed out that a substantial portion of the factory's output is produced from herds grazing on lands which a few vears ago were carrying comparatively small numbers of sheep; and that from many points of view the introduction of dairying amongi the natives of the East Coast has fully vindicated the confidence shown.by the early shareholders.
