WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

NOATAPA MEETING Tlio monthly mewting of tlio Ngatnpa 'Women's Institute was field in tlio Jubilee Hall last Thursday afternoon. Airs. Turnbull presiding over u large attendance of members. The roll call, “Useful .Household Hints,'' was well responded to. Miss K. Turnbull, who tuts just returned from a prolonged visit to Australia, and is spending a short holiday with her parents, Mr. and Nil's. W. Turnbull, before leaving for England, gave a most interesting address on various topics relating to life in Australia, enlarging upon the many scenic attractions. Reference was made to the departure of two members from the instituto, Mrs. I). O'Rourke and M iss Sheila O’Rourke, the president wishing them every success in the future.

.Mrs. I). S. Williams gave an interesting' demonstration on I lie making of sandsonp, which was much appreciated. An amusing' competition, “Peeling an apple blindfolded,” was won by Mrs. IU. Angland and Aliss J.. Williams. . Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Airs. D. O’Rourke and Airs. T. J. Atchison, and a happy meeting was brought u> a conclusion by the singing of tlie National Anthem. KORANGA MEETING Tlie August meeting of the Koranga Women’s institute, was held at I lie home of .Mrs. K:. Judd, who had kindly placed her sunny room at the disposal of members. This being melnbers’ day, Mrs. F. J’.riimt was in the chair, and Airs. J. Bell lion, .secretary. Alter the singing of the ode, Mrs. liriant. extended a hearty welcome lo two visitors, Mrs. nones and Alias Wright. Tlie motto for tile day,, ''Bile is a camera, look pleasant,” was then read, and judging by the happy faces was carried out to the letter. Airs. Kilmers was elected press correspondent, in place of Airs. F. llriunt, who is leaving the district, and Airs. OlaytonGreeiie was placed in charge of the commission stall. Tlie roll call, eggless recipe, cake or pudding, was well responded to. There were eight entries in the competition, soft toy, aIL of them being most attractive, making the judging of them a diflicult task. Airs. T. Foster proved the winner, with a, charming doll. Airs. Williams’ brown squirrel was .second, and Airs. Howler’s bunny and Airs. Harding's frog, tied tor third place. Airs. 11. liowlev Hum demonstrated the making of a candlestick from cotton reels of various sizes, which, although, quite a simple process, was most elfeetivc when finished. For so doing, she was accorded a. hearty vote of thanks. The social half-hour was Idled in by an amusing game and a competition. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Alesdamcs Kilmers, Rowley and C. t.ireeiie. At the conclusion of the meeting, Airs. K. Williams, the president, took tlie opportunity of bidding farewell to Airs. s:’. llriani. who is leaving lo reside in |he Ngniapa district, saying that she would lie greatly missed by all. This concluded a most, enjoyable meeting, and members dispersed for another month.
