The position of the South African protectorates was the subject qif a Parliamentary reply by the Under-Secretary for the Dominions, Lord Harrington, today. He recalled an aide merrioire published after conversations between the 'Dominions' Secretary and the Prime Minister of the Union last year, which stated that the policy) of both the United Kingdom and the Union Governments for (he next few years should be. directed to bringing about a situation in which, if a transfer wereito be effected it would be only with the full acquiescence of the populations concerned. "This still represents the policy of the Government here, and T have nothing to add to that statement," said Lord Harlington.
