ETHIOPIAN APPEAL
AID TO INDEPENDENCE
MAJORITY OF LEAGUE
COVENANT OBLIGATIONS
(Reed. June 18, 2 p.m.) LONDON, June 17. Tn a letter to The Times the Abyssinian Minister, Dr. A/.aj Martin, sets out the views of the Abyssinian Government. Firstly Abyssinia considers that al. least a majority of the members of the League of Nations should, in accordance with the obligations of the coveuanl, take strong and effective action collectively to support the independence of Ethiopia, and that they should refuse recognition of the Italian annexation by aggression, but that if the League does not find itself strong enough to make the aggressor evacuate Ethiopia, tin! next best thing is to give the Ethiopian Government a loan sufficient to enable Abyssinia to fight her own battle against the aggressor. This, it is urged, would confine the trouble to two parties. "If neither of these solutions is acceptable and the extinction of Ethiopia is allowed, all I can say is that the prestige of the present members of the League of Nations will also go down in liistory to the lowest level," con eludes Dr. Martin.
