KING'S BIRTHDAY EFFORT
FINAL DETAILS SETTLED At a meeting held last evening in the Borough Council chambers linal details were settled in connection with the Festival of Sport gathering at the Oval on Tuesday next. The principal officials will be : Ground centre, Mr. A. J. Nicol; gates and admission. Messrs. T. J. Adair and C. SBruce; starter, Mr. W. Carmichael; judges, Messrs. W. Wildish and C. EBrown; basketball parade marshalls, Miss 0. Mead and assistants; umbrella parade marshals, Mr. G. J. Bigby and assistants; announcer, Mr. P. Pulton; lug-o'-war, Messrs. H. F. Forster and .1. W. Kane; obstacle race, Messrs. M. Taylor and J. Algie; timekeeper, Mr. .). Harvey; motor driving events, Messrs. G. A. Nicholls and I>. McGregor; urn-i pire, Mr. V. Gaulton; pig novelty, Mr. G. H. SceatsS Rugby events, Messrs. J. B. Mercer, K. A. Waite, and Referees' Association; association football, Mr. .1. J. MacDonald: basketball, Messrs. Wallace and .1. Crawford-Smith; hockey, Messrs. Butler and assistants. Lieut. Wood will be in charge of the W.E.C.M.R. Band and assistance in traffic control has been arranged with the borough authorities. Fire Police, and Fire Brigade. NOVELTY ITEMS ADDED Several novelty items were added t<> the programme, which promises to be of a. nature never previously attempted in Gisborne. The organiser and the committee are confident of their ability to run a qiviek-mnving, bright programme with a maximum of interest, excitement, pleasure and enjoyment. Refreshments and hot water will be available, also home-made cakes, sweets, soft drinks, and toffee apple* lor the children. Everything possible will be done to ensure the comfort- of patrons, and they are assured of a big day's enjoyment for young and old at a very modest cost. Side shows will be in evidence and some interesting features will be exhibited. The Rugby events, as well as the other sports h'xt tires, will be participated in by selected teams, and the matches will be for short intervals only, enabling the players to give their best with dash. The. tug-o'-war entries promise a big field. The children are keenly anticipating the treats in store for them.
Arrangements are in train to ensure that ail of the- large attendance expected will obtain a. full view of the proceedings and cars will not he permitted to park so as to obscure the main field from, vision. The jwheel'barrow derby promises some surprises, and altogether the show should he a novel and highly diverting production on a large scale. The full programme of events shortly will bo published l .
