RECORD PAY-DAY
BONDS FOR VETERANS
HUGE SUM INVOLVED
WASHINGTON, June 14.
The biggest pay day in the Government's history was to-day, when postmen delivered "Baby" bonds aggregating £330,000,000 to 3,000,000 Great War veterans.
There were celebrations by veterans' associations throughout the nation to mark the greatest event of its kind in -the history of the United States. Police were ready for swift prosecution of confidence men and other "get-rich-quick" tale spinners.
Armed National Guardsmen were mobilised for any emergency in the huge deliveries. There was a wave of buying and consequent trade pickings are expected. .'
