STEEPLES TO COTSFIELD COUNT WILLONYX IN HURDLES MASTER CYKLOX'S MILE (Per Truss Association.) HASTINGS, Inst night. The Hawkc's Bay Jockey Club's winter meeting concluded'oh Saturday in splendid weather. There was a large attendance and excellent racing. Tito totalisator investments came to £7049. compared with £6038 for the corresponding day last year. The total for the meeting was £11.411. against £10,285 last year. Following nre the results:
Hastings Handicap.—2 Mata Hari (Morris), 1: 1 Quake (Broughton), 2; 3 Hunter's Morn, 3. Also stalled: 6 Glcnrossie, 4 Helios. 5, Hunting Spy. Mata Hari was the first out and led all the way, followed by Quake, Hunter's Morn played up at' the start. The field was eventually started in front of him. He soon ran into third place. Mata Hari won by four lengths; same between second and third. Helios Was fourth. Time, Imii). Bsee Whakatu Hurdles.—2 Count Willonyx (Deslandes). 1; 5 Manifesto (Trillo), 2: 4 Tahoma (Carroll), 3. Also started: 1 ' Emotion, 3 Souchong. 6 Lord Hereford. Souchong and Manifesto led at the statt. 'Emotion tailing the. field. At the hurdle out of the .straight, Tahoma ran aero is Count Willonvx, Lord Hereford and Emotion. Soon after Tahoma took the leril from Manifesto, Souchong dropping bark and Count Willonyx dosing up. Tahoma was in front again, and went out wide across the Inst hurdle, letting \ Count Willonyx and Manifesto up on the inside. Won by a length ; .same between second and third. Lord Hereford was fourth. Time, 2.49. Haveloek Flying Handicap.—2 Blt.< Shirt (Anderson), 1 ; 3 Blue Garter (Leach), 2; 1 L'ova.l Feast (Walsh), 3. Also storied: 5 'Royal Solo, 8 Sybil Song, A Tractile, 7 Agog. 6 Glidealong, Royal Feast and Blue Shirt were tlue leaders most, of the way. Blue Carter | got away well, but dropped back second ! to last and came fast iti the straight. i Won by half a length, with a head beI tween .second and 1 third. Royal Solo was | fourth. Time, 1.23.
ITawke's Bay Steeplechase.—l Cotsfield (Trillo), 1; 4 Strome (Fergus), 2; 2 Manawatu (.McDonald), 3; Also started : 3 Do/in. 4 Monarchy. 6 Kaokaoroa. Monarchy led over the firal Iwo fences. when Cotsfiehl took charge, Monarchy, Stroriie and Kaokaoroa following in (hit order. Entering the last round', K;m kaoroa went up second, Monarchy dropperl hack nnd was later pulled up, having started bleeding. Approaching Mio straight Strome and Manawatu made rims and witli Cotsfield took the last fence almost togetlier, Cotslield winning by half a length; four lengths between second and third. Kaokaoroa was fourth. Time. Sinin. 12sec.
Rotopai Handicap,—6 Master Cyklon (Coldsboro), 1; 2 Contact. (Anderson), 2; 1 Blygain (Marsh), 3. Also started : 3 Forctn, 7 Begorrah, 8 Tudor Wench. 9 Bothwrll, 4 Sunder. 8 Roval Dash, 5 First Hand. Sunder. Master Cykloii and Blygain were the early leaders with Contact, and First Hand next. Then was a, good race in the straight. Master ( \" lon. coming fast and getting the vordi [I by half a length from. Contact, with Blygain a length further away. First Hand was fourth. Time, 1.44.
Woodlands Handicap,—7 [Royal Polo (Forsyth). 1; 4 Royal-Fensi (Walsh). ?,; 3 Quake ißroughton). ?. Also started: 1 First Chapter. 5 The Grasper, 6 Trailer. 2 Caen. Quake led from the start, Royal Feast ,and Royal Solo following. Quake almost ran off the course at the homo turn, having, to lie straightened up and finishing right under llije judge's box. Royal Solo and T'oyrM Feast fought out a good finish, the former winning by half a head; Quake a head' further away. First Chapter was fourth. Time, 1.17.
Final Handicap.—3 Tladie (Mori is). 1 ; ] Pnkanni (Coldsboro), 2; 6 Sunny Sky (Forsyth). 3. Also started : 2 Passion Flower. 4 Lavina,, 6 Royal Bengal. P.-dca-Tttii and Fassion Flower made most of the running. Pladie came fast in the last furlong and snatched victory on the post. Won by a neck with half a. length between second and third. Passion Flower was fourth. Time. 1.15.
