VERITY AS ALL-ROUNDER

(Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 15, noon.) LONDON, June 14. The New Zealander, C. S.. Dempster, has leaped into further fame in English cricket, and at the present time heads the list of batting averages with a total of 505' runs and'an average 1 of 72.14 per inningp. ■ - Holmes, the Surrey captain, with 829 runs for'th'e:season'to date,\has.the highest aggregate, iclqsely -followed by Fishlock, with '822, with' Gimble.tt ; and Fagg not far behind. An interesting feature of the tableis that Hedley Verity, the Yorkshire bowler, is second'on the list of batting averages, a number of not outs and an aggregate of 272 giving him an average of 68. There is hardly any competition for the bowling premiership, Verity having taken more wickets than any other bowler and his average being 3.04 better than his- nearest rivah Copsom • Coyer, with only seven fewer ■ wickets than Verity, lias' been very successful so far, but-has been: comparatively costly.
