GOLD VASE GOLF CONTEST A BRILLIANT DISPLAY (Reed. June 11, noon.) LONDON, June 10. The Australian, Jim Ferner, won the gpid vase golf tournament following a record first round of 68 with a second round of 71, an aggregate of 139. lie beat the joint record of 143 by Bobby Jones and Rex Hartley. In the first round of the tournament, a 36-holes stroke competition at Asliridge, Ferner broke the amateur course record of 68, compared with the previous record of 69 made by I'. B. Lucas last year. Forrier was never troubled, lie had par figures for the first two holes and birdie fours at the sixth and seventh, accomplishing the remainder half in par. Ferrier dropped a stroke at the short eleventh, but more than made up lor it by birdie fours at the thirteenth and fourteenth and an eagle three at the fifteenth, where he holed a long putt.
