DECLINE IN OUTPUT BURDEN OF TAXATION (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. A considerable decline in the output, in recent years as the result of the adverse economic conditions and burden ol direct and indirect taxation, was mentioned in the chairman's address Io the annual meeting of New Zealand Brewcries. Limited, to-day. "'Although ihe improved crnn.tii.ions and the reduction in excise duty assisted in regaining a portion of this loss, the position at the end of the year was that, the company's output is still below normal." said the chairman. "In recent years there has been an increase in public demand for bottled beers, and this feature has been noted in other countries also. In order to meet this demand, and lo ensure the provision of the highest grade article, the company has undertaken, or bad in train, extensive additions to buildings and plant at ils several bottling establishments."

The chairman confirmed the purchase by Hie company of Ihe old-established Ti ma rn Brewery Company, Limited. Ihe purchase was completed a few days ago. The directors intend lo enlarge this plant, and develop Ihe 1 nsiness as opportunity offers. The national licensing poll, taken in November, he continued, resulted in an anti-prohibition majority of 535.575 voles. Following a succession of prohibition defeats ill New Zealand and the general world-wide abandonment wherever it bad been tried, this should he a clear indication to the Legislature that the public mind was definitely settled against prohibition, and that, it was futile and unreasonable to persevere with triennial licensing polls. t The Hon.
